As a working artist, what could be better than living in New York City? For Rusty Segars, not much. Having moved from North Carolina's Outer Banks in 2007, Rusty now calls The Big Apple home.

"I love it here," he says. "I'm such a big fan of design and I'm always trying to improve my own work, so networking and comparing notes with other designers here in the city is one of the main reasons I love living here. Different design trends are always emerging and evolving, and it's great to be able to keep a finger on that pulse.

Rusty has created and worked on projects for clients such as Ralph Lauren, Rugby by Ralph Lauren, American Eagle, DSW, Princeton University, Cadillac, Levi's, Rem Koolhaas, and several other great brands from the fashion and entertainment industries over the years. He's maintained a busy freelance calendar for over 12 years while also more recently working full-time as a designer at Ralph Lauren for over two years, followed by two years as Senior Web Designer at Hollywood.com/Spill.com/Movietickets.com. Now, he brings all that experience to Bluespark as the Creative Director and UI Designer.

Classically trained in graphic design, Rusty is a self-taught web designer. "It's cool to start a new web project with a clean slate—to be flexible and creative and have fun with it. It's also great to be working with such a talented team of Drupal developers; they take my designs and build really solid, reliable sites that our clients love and can maintain themselves."

When he's not designing websites, Rusty likes to get out into the city—to see concerts and films, try new restaurants and bars, and explore the city—but he also tries to plan a trip to get out of the city every other month or so. Some of his favorite spots to visit are New Orleans, LA and Salem, MA, with regular trips back home to the Outer Banks of NC and Hampton Roads, VA to visit family and friends.
