James Wilson has been with Bluespark Labs from the very beginning. The company's first hire, James had been working on a freelance basis when Bluespark Founder and Principal Michael Tucker brought him onboard full-time in 2009.

With a B.S. in Computer Science from North Carolina State University, James says that when he realized his chosen profession was going to keep him "chained to a cubicle," he sold everything and traveled for about a year and a half. His travels led him to Ecuador, South America, a place he describes as "beautiful because it's small and friendly and is so multicultural and biodiverse."

James has traveled throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, and now calls Jacmel, Haiti home. Because the Bluespark business model allows him to work remotely, he's able to contribute - even from rural Haiti - to the development of client projects.

Of course, James is bilingual in English and Spanish (and even speaks a little French), but he's also bilingual in back-end Drupal coding and in front-end Drupal theming and user interface (UI) design. "I get to wear two hats," he says, "because I have an eye for design - which can be a rare thing among developers."

When he's off the clock, James practices capoeira, a Brazilian martial art and dance form. He also teaches capoeira to a group of children at a nearby orphanage, which he says is a lot of fun. James and his partner, Carol, also enjoy swimming, snorkeling, and dancing salsa.
